Milestone for Alpine Solar Power
On 31 August 2023, the prototype of the planned SolSarine solar project, which is being realised under the sponsorship of Impact Gstaad, was officially inaugurated on the Hornberg above Saanenmöser near Gstaad. The alpine solar plant is a milestone for the use of solar energy in the mountains and the expansion of renewable energies in Saanenland.
SolSarine should one day help to close the winter gap in solar power. Because of the thinner layer of air and the stronger solar radiation, the modules in the mountains can produce about 40% more energy than systems in the lowlands. The modules are designed in such a way that biodiversity is preserved and agricultural use is still possible.
Energy self-sufficient Saanenland
"With SolSarine, we are strengthening the independence and security of supply of our region," explained community president Toni von Grünigen in his speech. Just two square kilometres of solar installations would be enough to cover the entire demand of the Saanenland. The prototype that has now been put into operation will provide important data for planning over the next two years.
By 2025, 10% of the planned capacity is to be connected to the grid, and the full expansion is to be completed in 2027.
