This is what it's all about
Clean drinking water is at the center of all sustainability discussions.
Although the Saanenland is in a luxurious situation with sufficient drinking water of outstanding quality, careful handling is indispensable.
Natural disasters pose the greatest threat to Gstaad's drinking water.
Gold from the tap
Switzerland and especially the Saanenland are considered to be the drinking water capital of Europe. The water quality can easily compete with that of bottled mineral water. The people of Saanenland are particularly proud of their 40 or so public wells, from which the precious commodity gushes forth in top drinking water quality around the clock. But even in the Saanenland, drinking water must be taken care of. Natural disasters in particular can pollute the water within a very short time. In addition, one must be aware that any polluted drinking water must be reprocessed in a sewage treatment plant, which is associated with a large energy consumption.
The drinking water of Saanenland comes on the one hand from mountain springs at 1500 meters above sea level and on the other hand from ground water, which is extracted by three pumping stations.
