This is what it's all about
Around 250 properties in Gstaad and the surrounding area are heated by wood chip heating systems.
Large hotels such as the Palace Gstaad, The Alpina or the Park Gstaad are also connected to the network.
The district heating Saanen-Gstaad was realized by the district heating specialist EBL from Basel.
Sustainable heating
In Dorfrütti near Saanen, mountains of wood chips and waste wood pile up on a sprawling industrial site. This is the wood logistics of one of the largest heating centers in Switzerland. Together with the Schönried heating center, a total of around 50,000 cubic meters of wood from the surrounding forests are burned each year and around 250 properties are supplied with sustainably processed hot water. The Saanen-Gstaad district heating network thus replaces around 4 million liters of heating oil per year!
On the 6km long way from the heating center to the Hotel Palace Gstaad, the water loses only about 2 degrees of heat.
