- Around 250 properties in Gstaad and the surrounding area are heated by woodchip heating systems.
- Large hotels such as the Palace Gstaad, The Alpina and Park Gstaad are also connected to the network.
- The Saanen-Gstaad district heating system was realized by the Basel district heating specialist EBL.
Sustainable heating
In Dorfrütti near Saanen, mountains of wood chips and waste wood are piled up on an extensive industrial site. This is the wood logistics of one of the largest heating centers in Switzerland. Together with the Schönried heating plant, a total of around 50,000 cubic meters of wood from the surrounding forests are burned every year and around 250 properties are supplied with sustainably treated hot water. The Saanen-Gstaad district heating network thus replaces around 4 million liters of heating oil per year!
